Editorial Policy & Standards
Cosmic Horizons is dedicated to providing high-quality, accurate, and thought-provoking content at the intersection of astrobiology, physics, evolution, and philosophy. We maintain strict editorial standards to ensure our readers can distinguish between established scientific fact and theoretical inquiry.
1. Content Classification & Labeling
To maintain transparency and trust, we operate under a bifurcated content model. Every article is clearly classified:
- Scientific Reporting (News, Analysis, Explainers): These articles represent the current scientific consensus. They are based on peer-reviewed literature and data from major space agencies (NASA, ESA, JAXA, etc.).
- Philosophy & Perspectives (Theory, Speculation, Hypotheses): These pieces explore unproven frameworks and philosophical interpretations. While grounded in logic, they reside outside current scientific consensus and are clearly labeled as “Speculative” or “Theoretical.”
2. Sourcing and Fact-Checking
Our commitment to accuracy involves a rigorous verification process:
- Primary Source Priority: We prioritize original research papers, data sets, and direct institutional announcements over secondary media reporting.
- Expert Review: Complex scientific topics are reviewed against the current body of knowledge in the relevant field.
- Citation Standards: All external data, quotes, and unique ideas are attributed to their original sources via direct links or academic citations.
3. Corrections and Updates Policy
Integrity requires transparency when mistakes occur or new data emerges:
- Minor Corrections: Typographical errors or minor formatting issues are corrected silently unless they change the meaning of the text.
- Substantive Errors: If a factual error is discovered, we apply a prominent correction notice at the top of the article, detailing what was changed and why.
- Versioning: Articles that are significantly updated to reflect new scientific developments are marked with a “Last Updated” date and a brief summary of the changes.
4. AI Usage and Human Accountability
We leverage AI tools for research assistance, data aggregation, and initial drafting. However, we maintain a strict Human-in-the-Loop (HITL) policy:
- Human Oversight: No AI-generated text is published without comprehensive human review, fact-checking, and editing.
- Editorial Responsibility: Our human editorial team assumes 100% accountability for the accuracy and tone of all published content.
5. Ethics and Independence
- Conflict of Interest: We disclose any financial relationships, affiliate links, or sponsorships that could be perceived as influencing our coverage.
- Independence: Our editorial decisions are made independently of any sponsors or external influences.
